Yesterday Pattaya bars were closed at 6pm in accordance with Thai tradition for Maka Bucha Day. The punters huddled in darkened corners of their rooms with clandestine bottles of booze, praying for the dawn to bring relief from the ban of alcohol sales.
Surprise.
Tomorrow is Election Day for the Thai Senate. Bars close today at 6pm and remain shut Saturday.
No bars. No alcohol. Thailand is dry.
Thai citizens registered in other privinces, but residing in Pattaya will be able to vote tomorrow with a sober mind.
More power to the PPP for promoting public morality.
For everyone else the good news is that the bars will re-open Sat. the 23rd at midnight. The bad news is that another election cycle will subtract a day of booze from the calender next weekend.
