The trial of Thaksin on charges of corruption has opened in Bangkok. His wife, old Helmethead, is facing related accusations about a shady real estate deal. Khun Thaksin seems a little surprised that his lawyers have not be able to delay the proceedings until hell freezes over and is sending out signals that if he goes down, he isn’t going down alone.
“We are innocent.”
No one is innocent of everything and the courts are forging forward with dispatch. Someone big wants him and his wife Potojam in jail and are manipulating the courts to achieve his imprisonment rather than allow the government to intercede on the part of their titular head.
Normal legal tactics such as bribery have been thwarted with the arrest of three lawyers for leaving a lunch bag with 1,000,000 baht in the court. No judge touched it.
Things look tough for Thaksin, but there’s always doing a runner.
