PPP and Samak Win by a Nose

The question is by whose nose?

The Thai electorate showed a true disregard for the past with the narrow victory for the PPP (People Power party). Few voters in the December 23 election were surprised by the zombie reincarnation of the ousted the Thai Rak Thai Party in the December 23 election and the ruling junta has to face the dubious honor of having to restore power to those politicians ousted by last year’s coup d’etat. Samak Sundaravej has vowed to honor the new constitution with the same respect displayed for Art as Bangkok governor when he abandoned a museum project in favor of a shopping mall.

Here is a man who understands the true power of the people resides in their ignorance, as H L Mencken said, “No one ever went borke underestimating the stupidity of the American public.”

You can substitute any nationality for American. They all work just as well.

The wily politician has formed a preliminary coalition to rule Thailand in 2008. His first plans are pardons for all TRT members as well as an invitation to the head of TRT Thaksin to come back home without fear of arrest. You can almost imagine him saying, “We know the heart of the people and it is for all Thais to come home.”

Nong Rithdee’s commentary in yesterdays’s BANGKOK POST predicts Samak’s granting amnesty to TRT big thinkers such as Newin ChidChob and Chalerm Yubamrung, whose names meaning nothing to 99.999999% of farangs living in Thailand, but believe me these men are ready to lead the nation back to their interrupted future of 2006. Khun Nong suspects the bloodless coup leaders should be looking for new jobs as the PPP resumes its policy of promoting Class 10 associates of Old Blue Eyes to positions of power to prepare the triumphant return of old Thaksin himself with his anointment as PM in the shadows being completed by the unfreezing of his assets.

Nong’s tongue in cheek article doesn’t forget the past as he states a case for the Tak Bai dead and writes, “while someone might enjoy his revenge and resurrection, let’s hope that the in thing for the new year is something old and valuable like good governance and justice.

I can hardly wait.

We are all Thaksin.
