King pardons Swiss Man

The BBC and bangkok Post report the Thai king pardon of a Swiss man who spraypainted five of the monarch’s portraits after a night of heavy drinking in Chiang Mai. One month out of a 10 year sentence. The story was lightly covered in the Thai papers to protect Oliver Jufer, a long time resident of the Land of Smiles.

He was declared persona non grata. His immediate deportation was almost a worst sentence than 10 years, because the second saddest room in Thailand after a prison cell is the departure lounge in the airport.

Goodbye Thailand.

Better to take the next flight to Cambodia.

Anything is better than Switzerland, country of a million cows and dour faces on heavy people.

The King is a wise man revered by his people and understands no one is perfect. Recently King Bhumibol said, “I am not afraid if the criticism concerns what I do wrong, because then I know. If you say the king cannot be criticized, it means that the king is not human.”

His statement doesn’t include spraypainting his portraits.

May he live forever.
