Booze Ban for 20 year olds in Thailand

Thailand’s interim government approved a bill aimed at curbing the alcohol consumption through a ban of booze ads, zoning for drinking, and the raising of the drinking age to 20.

Their most recent attempt to push through this legislation was defeated by the major ad agencies along with their whiskey company subscribers, however this time they have a petition of 8 million names to spur the Senate into action.

The Bangkok Post reported that teenage anti-booze campaigner Kan-anek Thanapornditsanand has invited the premier to pledge his support. “I’m very glad that he accepted. It shows that he gives importance to the issue and wants to keep alcohol away from young people.”

The non-ad clause would eliminate Johnny Walker signs from bars, but not stop the sale of lao khao the real alcohol crippling the countryside, zoning would forbid sale of alcohol near school and temples, but not police stations, and finally the raising of the drinking age will force kids to use drugs, because when you want to get high, you get high.

Prohibition has never worked, but I wish them luck in this formidable challenge.

Thais rank the #6 in worldwide alcohol consumption.

Yesterday I was up-country and everyone was drinking like there was no tomorrow and it was only Tuesday. Fights broke out and things got ugly, as the wallets are emptied to feed the fever and there wasn’t a single beer or booze ad within five miles.

And everyone was over age.

The young regard their elders in disbelief.

Kwaii.” they think because none of them want to end up like their drunken relatives or me. But no one can avoid this fate unless they are Muslims and I know drunken Mohammedans. Not drunk like me, but drunk like a GOP senator’s mistress after a night of missionary position sex.

“Is it in yet?”

If I’ve been drinking then I don’t even bother with sex.

Not even my abusing myself.
