Municipal Elections in Bangkok (who cares?)

A record non-turnout is expected in today’s voting for 57 seats open for city councillors. lappillow.jpg

Officials for the Bangkok Metro Authority are blaming the heightened disinterest on predicted rains and the general apathetic malaise besetting the nation’s electorate. Thailand after all hasn’t had a national government in months and the electorate have figured out that no government is better than any of the most recent manifestation of social engineering.

The usual percentage for municipal elections is 36%, although a record low has record in 1974.

17%.

Who rules? Who cares?

In the USA over 40% of the people don’t vote and that’s 40% of the registered voters.

Which means less than half of America vote in the national elections.

To reflect this growing disenchantment with politicians a candidate for the governor of Kentucky asked that ‘none of the above’ be added to the electoral list.

Scared that ‘none of the above’ might win the election with a landslide, the voting commission banned the choice. The candidate for governor then changed his middle name to ‘None of the above’, which the commission also excluded from the ballot.

So much for democracy.

Believers in freedom exercise your right to not vote.

Nothing is better than something some times.
