A Name Is A Name Is A Name

“A cigar is sometimes just a cigar.”

This quote is largely attributed to Sigmund Freud. Research into his writings and speeches have failed to turn up a single phrase close to this sentence, however Freud was a fierce smoker and many of his followers smoked cigars with a convert’s fervor.

I don’t smoke cigars for many reasons. They stink, they make your clothes stink, and they make me think about the smoker fellating another man. I have nothing against blow-jobs, but instead of fantasizing about a sexual adventure, I envision the cigar smoker on his knees at a public urinal. It’s usually not a pretty pictures.

“A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.” Gertrude Stein’s phrase from her 1913 poem SACRED EMILY has been universally accepted as ‘things mean what they are’, and a name is a name is a name except in sexual matters for smartdate.com came up with lists of the ten most sexually active names, male and female.

Chris got the gold for the men followed by Charles and Matt, while the least sexual males were called Edward, Dylan, and Frank. This dubious distinction was shared by females called Dorothy, Jean, and Michelle. The most sexual active females were topped by Vannessa, Angela, and Tamara.

I’ve only had sex with four names from the sexually active list, bout six from the least sexually column.

It must be an age thing and I know that age is age is age is age at any age.

ps In 1954 Aldous Huxley wrote in DOORS OF PERCEPTION,”A rose is a rose is a rose. But these chair legs were chair legs were St. Michael and all angels.”

That’s LSD for you.
