The View Along Schermerhorn Street

The empty lots around downtown Brooklyn are disappearing fast.

A blue wall guards this site and small square windows allow a view on the foundation work.

I suspect the developer will build a hi-rise condo. People want to live downtown. There are subways going everywhere and the stores along the Fulton Mall serving the black community are being economically cleansed by higher rents.

The artistic in the snow-covered earthworks is much simpler than Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty in the Great Salt Lake. It says everything about modern civilization without any overt attempt to communicate its pure functionality.

Concrete will cover the ground by the summer and all of this will be forgotten by the passers-by, as if it nevr existed in the first place.

Same as this solid cone of slush standing guard over winter on Schermerhorn Street.
