Da Vinci Code banned?

Four Christian groups have joined the worldwide uproar about the depiction of Jesus, the church, Albinos, Mary Magdalene, and divinity in the soon-to-be released THE DA VINCI CODE. Christians are in the minority in Thailand. If they were an animal, they might even be under danger of extinction, yet these Christians are calling for a national boycott of the film.

Thai censors have threatened to chop off the film’s last ten minutes.

Christian groups are delighted with this proposal.

“We like Jesus the way he is in THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD.” Reverend Nokkeespat from the Pattaya Bible Center told his two followers. “We not like him as man. He God. Big God and not go with lady.”

This last comment was in reference to the book’s allegation that Jesus and Mary Magdalene (the whore?) had an affair that favored Jesus’ human nature. In other words they went all the way and more than in the biblical sense.

When I mentioned this at the Buffalo Bar, the girls said, “Okay, he go with lady. He barfine her. No problem.”

I got the feeling they like most Thai people have no idea who Jesus is. I showed his picture to the same girls and they asked, “Why ka-toey have beard?”

Later I was speaking with a DVD bootlegger. He said, “Film come out this week. Sell many DVD. Good. Jesus Good. Lady good.”

The censorship committee has promised to look into the accusations after a round of golf with executives from Sony, which is distributing the film.

If that film is in trouble, what about this one.

French critics at Cannes hate the film.

Thai Police had rescinded the censorship of the movie with a vote of 6 to 5.

Does one thing have to do with the other?

If it was good, would the cut have been made?

Ron Howard the director added this advice. “If the film is going to offend you, don’t see it.”

I guess if a book sells 40 million copies worldwide, you can tell a large percentage of the viewing public to go f— yourself.

Not what he said, but just the way it sounds.
