Buffalo Bar in Pattaya
My favorite Pattaya Bar is the Buffalo on the 3rd Road.
When it first opened years ago Sai Sam was a dusty track and the bar stood by itself on a dirt road leading into an unassuming Soi. Back then circa 1997 the bar was a good alternative to the self-destructive go-go bar crawls on Walking Street. With the banyan tree at the entrance and a bar open to the breeze, the buffalo was a spot of Eden in the Last Babylon.
Sin is never far from sight, then again Luis Bunuel, the Spanish Director, said, “There is no pleasure without sin.”
I have seen customers come and go over the years as well as women. Names from the past blur as do faces. Sometimes they disappear upcountry to have a child. Other times to foreign lands to live with boyfriends or husbands. Some succeed. Some come back and try and succeed again.
As a Thai-speaking farang I get to hear stories. Ones I suppose I shouldn’t know, but will tell from time to time.
Some will be true. Some will be fiction, although told to me as the truth.
