Billion Bullets

I’ve only fired a gun once in anger and I’m not even sure whether that was really the case. The year was 1979. Hurrah was a punk rock disco in Manhattan. Blondie was playing upstairs. I was watching the band. The barman said there was trouble at the door. I thought maybe someone didn’t want to pay the cover.

I was wrong.

Five Puerto Ricans had returned to right an earlier slight. Jack Flood KOed the first with a straight right. The old Harlem gangster had fought Joe Louis. Lost in 6th round. At 50 he was tough, but the PRs had knives. They stabbed him and his nephew Marvin. he pulled out his gun and shot it in the air. AS the PRs fled, Jack handed me the revolver. “Shoot ’em.”

It was night. They were already halfway down the block. Girls were screaming at the sight of blood streaming from Jack’s chest. I aimed the gun and pulled the trigger until it was empty. I only hit a parked car. Jack stood beside me. His hand covered a long slash. “Gun’s no good for more than ten feet. Get rid of it before the cops come and you should make yourself scarce too. Lot of people saw what you done. Thanks.”

Five bullets and none hit flesh.

Same as THE A-TEAM.

Bullets flying everywhere and no one gets hit.

I know it’s the truth and the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are learning the same lesson, for this year they have already shot a billion bullets. That’s something like 5000 bullets each or 15 a day and this onslaught has created a bullet shortage in the USA.

Police Depts. are rationing bullets to their officers. Cops say they is no danger of having to use slingshots as most officers rarely pull their piece and if they do the gunfight is usually over within 12 rounds.

All because of a billion bullets a year.

Damn that’s a lot.

What the hell those troops firing at and not hitting?

As I know ‘moving targets’.

Damn hard to hit.

Better to be like thailand’s executioner. One target. One bullet

like in THE DEERHUNTER
