Thai Visa Rate Increase

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” JFK.

One thing the military junta discovered upon overthrowing the previous government was that the treasury had been plundered to finance the ex-PM’s popularity. To refill the nation’s coffers without alerting the international financial markets that revenue pirates have been scouring the countryside. Fines from traffic violations are on the rise, tax collectors are seeking payment from long-delinquent bills, and now farangs have been called on to help Thailand stave off bankruptcy by paying higher visa fees.

This announcement has set the western community into another hissy fit. Thai Visa forum members are awash with usual level of misinformation. “The sky is falling.”

Maybe it’s more expensive, then again everything is in this modern world. As far as I know retirement visa aren’t subject to this increase. Guess the immigration oficers didn’t want a bunch of old gits pissing and moaning all day long over cheap beer. Nobody kvetches like them and I know since I’m over 50.

Do your part to save Thailand.
