McDonalds has initiated a legal proceeding against the Oxford Dictionary for the addition of ‘McJob’ into its latest edition. The fast-food giant claims that its jobs are not meaningless and the term coined by Douglas Copeland should be excised from the dictionary.
Someone without a McJob went to work at a Moscow franchise and stole the […]

INTRUDER ALERT.
Pattaya Immigration Police under the supervision of their superiors staged a precision raid on the Niran Grand Condo Complex in Soi Arunothai. Each of the condo blocks was searched by police and volunteers on the lookout for foreigners without visas or proper papers. After several hours the official contingent successfully concluded the mission with the […]

GW Bush keeps blathering on how much a threat North Korea is to the world. Their danger to world peace is graphically revealed by a satellite photo of the hermit nation.
South Korea had bright cities.
North Korea? My Christmas tree has more lights.
So basically the most dangerous Axis of Evil is ecologically sound.
What about my ecological footprint? I live in Thailand, recycle, eat […]

The other night Jamie Parker called me to negotiate a sale of a Soi Six bar. A Belgian fireman was unloading the establishment of bliss to an American drunk. Neither could speak the other’s language. I drove to Bar Zero and successfully concluded the business within an hour. My older brother is a lawyer. His Boston charges […]

The 2000 US Presidential election ended in controversy. A recount in Florida was denied by a GOP governor Jeb Bush and a partisan Supreme Court ruled any further legal proceedings a waste of time.
After his inauguration GW Bush plodded along like a C-student surprised to find himself president of the high school senior class. Nothing was supposed […]

Nothing riles the vagrant farang population more than a rumor about a tourist visa change. Forget the southern unrest, the coup, Thaksin, rising gas prices, the rains, or a stuttering economy. Any threat to these foreigners’ semi-illegal residence in the Land of Smiles is regarded as a danger worst than Global Warming.
The newest is that the […]

My 7th Grade teacher was a nun. She told the class that at the Judgment Day everyone who ever was will be assembled before God to watch your transgressions.
“Why would god make good people watch bad things?” it seemed an honest question.
“So they can see why you’re going to Hell.” Sister Mary Josef’s belief in […]

I first walked into the Buffalo Bar in 1997. It became my local after I moved to Soi BongKoch. The beer was cold, the open-air atmosphere was a welcome change from the go-go bars’ tobacco-reek, and more than a few of the hostesses were desirable. My wife understandably hated the place and didn’t buy my excuse for frequenting the bar.
”I only […]

Two weeks ago my wife’s brother-in-law received a phone call from his brother. His buffalo was sick and needed Bok’s expert attention. It was 8pm. Starlight cannot pierce the black night west of the Chao Phra River and Bok’s eyes aren’t so good, so he enlisted his 16 year-old son, Beer, to chauffeur him on this mission of mercy.
Buffalos […]

In 1972 Bhutan’s King Jigme Singye Wangchuck attempted to reform his country’s feudal economy on a Buddhist spiritual level rather than a capitalistic model. To best judge his efforts the king created a Gross Domestic Happiness Index based on life satisfaction, life expectancy at birth, and ecological footprint per capita. The Wall Street Journal ignores […]
